ACCORDING TO THE COPPER SPREAD PCB’S ARE CLASSIFIED AS BELOW

SINGLE SIDE PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD

True to its name, this type has only one layer of a conductive material such as a copper sheet. The conductive sheet is then protected by a solder mask followed by the silkscreen to mark all the components. These are also known as single layer printed circuit board

You can easily identify a single layer PCB, as it will have markings and traces only on one side.

It is used in relatively simple circuits like digital camera circuits, toy circuits, radio and stereo sets etc.

First time single sided PCB was made in 1950 and still have been using in market in a bulk quantity

APPLICATIONS OF SINGLE LAYER PCB

As we know the single layer PCBs are very simple, but these are still in used in so much complex devices. Some of which are listed below.

  1. These are used in digital cameras circuits.

  2. These are used in radio and stereo equipment’s circuits.

  3. These are used in photo copy and printer machines circuits.

  4. These are used in digital calculators which are only consist of a single PCB.

  5. These are used in vending machine circuits.

DOUBLE LAYER PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD

This is also known as two layer PCB is a type of PCB which has conductive copper layers on both sides of the board. double sided PCB comes with two sided traces or paths i.e. top layer and bottom layer.

Double sided PCBs are very similar to single sided PCBs, except that they have two sided traces with a top and bottom layer. These boards can mount conductive copper and components on both sides of the circuit board, which allows the traces to cross over each other.  As these types of circuit boards are more complex than single sided PCBs, it can be more difficult to produce.

APPLICATIONS OF DOUBLE LAYER PCB

  1. Double layer PCB are used in medical devices such as pacemaker.

  2. Double layer PCB are used in industries for making high density power engines and battery chargers.

  3. Double layer PCB are widely used in lightening industries

  4. Double layer PCB are used in automotive and aerospace industries.

  5. Double layer PCB are commonly used in making of high density PCB in Electronics Industries.

MULTILAYER PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD

Multilayer PCB is a circuit board that has more than two layers. Unlike a Double-Sided PCB which only has two conductive layers of material, all multilayer PCBs must have at least three layers of conductive material which are buried in the center of the material.

IN THIS COURSE WE WILL FOCUS ON SINGLE AND DOUBLE SIDE PCB ONLY
