ACCORDING TO THE ASSEBLY, COMPONENTS ARE CLASSIFED AS :

 

  1. THROUGH HOLE COMPONENTS
  2. SURFACE MOUNT COMPONENTS

THROUGH HOLE COMPONENTS

PLATED THROUGH HOLE COMPONENTS:  The legs and terminals are being inserted in the printed circuit board via holes or drills. Soldering will be done on the opposite side of the components.

THROUGH HOLE TECHNOLOGY

 

THROUGH HOLE TECHNOLOGY, refers to the mounting scheme used for electronic components that involves the use of leads on the components that are inserted into holes drilled in printed circuit boards and soldered to pads on the opposite side either by manual assembly or by the use of automated insertion mount machines. This process is also called THROUGH HOLE ASSEMBLY. an electrical component mounted in this manner is referred to as a through hole device

SURFACE MOUNT COMPONENTS

SURFACE MOUNT COMPONENTS: The component legs are placed on the surface of the PCB. Soldering will be done on the same side of the body of the components.

SURFACE MOUNT TECHNOLOGY

 

SURFACE MOUNT TECHNOLOGY(SMT) is a method in which the electrical components are mounted directly onto the surface of a printed circuit board (PCB). An electrical component mounted in this manner is referred to as a surface-mount device (SMD).
