Different types of switches

The switches are classified into two types:

  1. Mechanical Switches

  2. Electrical Switches

Mechanical switches are switches which require physical contact or manual control with the switch and Electrical switches does not require any physical contact, they are either completely on or completely off.

Mechanical and electrical switches are also classified into various types like:

  • Single Pole Single throw Mechanical switches.

  • Double Pole Double throw Mechanical switches.

  • Momentary control mechanical switches.

  • ONE-WAY (SINGLE-POLE) ELECTRICAL SWITCH.

  • TWO-WAY (DOUBLE-POLE)ELECTRICAL SWITCH. …

  • DO NOT DISTURB SWITCH. …

  • And Many more…..

Here, we will be learning some of the momentary control switches:

  1. Push button

  2. Toggle Switches

  3. Slide Switches

  4. Rotatory Switches

1.Push Buttons:

This switch work by making and breaking the connection.

When the switch is pressed, the connection is make between the components and a path is formed to flow the current and when the pressure is released the connection breaks and the contacts are open.

2. Toggle Switches:

A toggle switch is a type of switch which is controlled by moving a lever back & forth for making and breaking the circuit or connection.

3.Slide Switches:

This type of switches have a small knob as slider. The slider is moved to open or close the circuit.

4. Rotatory Switches:

A rotatory switch is a type of switch which have a moving knob and can stop at several positions. We can control the contacts by moving the knob.
