Types of capacitor
07/10/2021
Capacitors are classified into two types:
-
Polarized capacitor
-
Non- Polarized capacitor
Capacitors are also classified into two mechanical groups:
-
Fixed Capacitor which have fixed capacitance value.
-
Variable Capacitor whose capacitance value varies.
Their are various types of capacitors.
-
Ceramic Capacitors
-
Film Capacitors
-
Power Film Capacitors
-
Electrolytic Capacitors
-
Paper capacitors
Here we will be briefly introducing Electrolytic and Ceramic Capacitors:
-
Ceramic Capacitor is a capacitor with fixed value and the dielectric material used is Ceramic. It is form by composition of two or more alternating layers of ceramic and metal. These capacitors are non-polarized.They are used for high stability and low losses. The capacitance value of this capacitor are stable in reference with applied voltage, temperature and frequency.
-
Electrolytic capacitor are polarized capacitors. This capacitor use an electrolyte to achieve a larger capacitance than other. It’s anode or positive plate is made of a metal that forms an insulating oxide layer through anodization. A solid, liquid, or gel electrolyte covers the surface of this oxide layer, serving as the cathode or negative plate of the capacitor. these capacitors are used for filtering ans smoothing the alternating voltage.
