light-emitting diode, or LED, is a type of solid-state lighting device that uses a semiconductor to convert electricity into light. It emits light when current flows through it. LEDs use energy far more efficiently with little wastage of heat.

 What is diode ?
A diode is a one way switch for current. It allows the current to flow in one direction and restricts the current flowing in opposite direction.

When the current passes through Led then the electrons recombine with the hole and emits light.

LED is a special type of diode so it means Led pass the current in one direction i.e forward direction(from positive to negative) and blocks the current in reverse direction.

There are some applications where Led’s are used like our mobile phones, device used for displaying purpose, advertising billboards etc.
